2026 Lions Club of Subang Jaya Received Awards from District Governor

At the close of the 2025/2026 fiscal year, we are deeply honoured to receive 11 District Awards presented by District Governor Tan Say Cheong.

These awards reflect the strength of our Club today. We continue to grow our membership, deliver meaningful community service, and develop capable leaders, all while maintaining the fellowship that has defined the Lions Club of Subang Jaya for over four decades.

To every Lion, Leo, sponsor, partner and friend who journeyed with us this year, thank you. These awards belong to all of you.

2026 PangKang Fellowship and Club Meeting

As our Club’s ’25/’26 fiscal year draws to a close, it was time for our annual pangkang, a Hokkien term meaning “finish work”, to celebrate another exciting and eventful term under President YC Tan.

Continuing a long standing Club tradition, members gathered at Curious Kitchen for our final BOD and Business Meeting, accompanied by good food, drinks, fellowship and a karaoke session.

The evening concluded with a farewell address from President YC, who reflected on the leadership lessons gained throughout his term. Having joined the Club 10 years ago as a young Lion, he shared how the journey had shaped him both personally and professionally. From someone who once spoke broken English and preferred to stay in the background, he has grown into a confident leader able to steer an active and demanding club.

On behalf of all members, we thank President YC, his Board of Directors and key officers for their dedication and service over the past year. Together, they have led another successful chapter in our Club’s history, delivering meaningful community projects while strengthening the bonds of fellowship that make our Club special.

A Special May 2026 Club Meeting

The 2nd last meeting of President YC Tan’s fiscal term saw a full house with nearly three dozen members and guests in attendance.

We were honoured to host a visit from the District Cabinet led by 1VDG Elect Simon Tan Yu Seng, alongside a courtesy visit from the young and fast rising Lions Club of Cyberjaya Blue Ocean Royale, as well as two esteemed members from the Rotary Club of Pudu, Rotarians Mike Tung & Alex Chang.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in remembrance of our recently departed Past President Alvin Chan.

The evening continued with updates on Club matters and the presentation of Lions Clubs International Long Service Awards. Congratulations to Lion Gary Choong for 35 years of service, Lion Peter Hong for 25 years, and President YC Tan together with Lion Sharon Lian for 10 years.

Our three Omega Leo Clubs were also represented by their Presidents and Incoming Presidents, sharing their upcoming plans and projects. We are especially proud that our Leo Eevian has expressed her intention to run for Leo District President, receiving our Club’s wholehearted endorsement.

The night ended on a warm note with birthday celebrations for our May babies, followed by the usual extended fellowship and conversations long after the meeting officially ended.

2026 Our Special Club Meeting in a Special Place

Our Club’s March Monthly General Meeting took on a slightly different setting this time. Instead of our usual venue, members gathered at SMK USJ 8, bringing the meeting quite literally back to school.

Taking inspiration from our District Governor Tan Say Cheong’s theme of “Back2Basic,” the evening began with a simple dinner at the school canteen. What the setting lacked in luxury, it more than made up for with some very satisfying and notably spicy dishes that quickly got everyone warmed up for the night ahead.

The meeting itself was held in the school’s Bilik Sejarah, known as Makmal Sejarah de Mercu. This room holds special meaning for our Club. Together with our sister clubs, the Lions Club of Lung Tan Taiwan and Lions Club of Guangzhou China, we had in 2025 sponsored the refurbishment of this learning space. Returning to use the room for our own meeting felt like a small but meaningful full circle moment.

Discussions carried on steadily through the evening, with a number of projects discussed and approved. As the meeting drew to a close around 10pm, members moved straight into the Club’s election meeting. The Club expressed its full support for President Elect Raymond Yau, who will lead the Club in the coming fiscal year.

By the end of the night, many members found themselves enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere of holding a meeting within a secondary school setting. It was a refreshing change from routine and a reminder that sometimes the best way forward is simply to return to the basics.

Our sincere thanks go to Pengetua Tuan Rozhan and his dedicated team of teachers for graciously allowing the Club to use the school facilities. Their support made this memorable evening possible.

Congratulations to the Organizing Chairperson, Lion Oscar Chow, for successfully completing this giant task assigned to him. Well done, Lion Oscar.

Finally, we need to thank all the fellow Lion organizing team members, Lion Advisors and Leos for your dedicated contribution and teamwork with OC. Not forgetting too is the fervent support of fellow Lions and friends of the Lions; thank you for your support and presence in this memorable event.

Farewell Message from President John Mc Ray

Fellow Lions,

As the horizon of the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 welcomes the dusk, I stand before you, encompassed by feelings of pride, gratitude, and hope. Leading the Lions Club of Subang Jaya has not merely been an office I held; it has been the most enriching chapter of my life thus far.

At the beginning of this year, we embraced the theme “Togetherness,” a beacon that has guided our journey. I have been privileged to witness an extraordinary synergy between the Leos and Lions, working hand-in-hand, striving tirelessly to shape our community for the better. This theme was not just a word; it became our action, our belief, our success story.

To my fellow LCSJ members, I extend my deepest gratitude for entrusting me with the honour of being your youngest Club President to date. Your support has been the backbone of our collective achievements. To the vibrant and dedicated Leos, a heartfelt thank you for being the driving force alongside my team throughout the fiscal year. Your enthusiasm, creativity, and boundless energy have been pivotal in our endeavours.

This year was about growing together, fostering leadership, and empowering each one of us to voice our ideas and bring them to life. I hope it has been as fulfilling for you as it has been for me. If there have been moments where my actions fell short or promises unkept, I sincerely apologise. It was never my intention, and I am grateful for your understanding and patience.

As this journey comes to a close, I am honoured to pass the baton to the 43rd President of our esteemed club, Ln Leong Jia Hui. With utmost confidence, I believe under her leadership, the Lions Club of Subang Jaya will soar to new heights, building upon the legacy we have all contributed to.

The time has come for me to sign off, but the memories, the accomplishments, and the lessons will forever be etched in my heart. Thank you, everyone, for your unwavering support, your trust, and your commitment to service. It has been a privilege, an honour, and a joy.

在今年年初，我們採納了“團結”這一主題，它成為了我們旅程的指路明燈。我有幸見證了獅子會和青獅會之間非凡的協同作用，攜手並肩，不懈努力，為打造更美好的社區奮鬥。這個主題不僅僅是一個詞彙；它成為了我們的行動，我們的信念，我們的成功故事。

對於我的梳邦再也獅子會會員們，我深表感激，感謝你們讓我有幸成為迄今為止最年輕的俱樂部主席。你們的支持是我們集體成就的基石。對於活力四射、充滿奉獻精神的青獅成員們，我衷心感謝你們在整個財政年度里與我和我的團隊一道成為推動力。你們的熱情、創造力和無限活力是我們努力的關鍵。

2023 Orientation and Training: Empowering New Members for Service

On 24 June 2023, our club took the initiative to arrange an orientation and training program for our recently joined members. Leading the training sessions were two experienced members of our club, PDG SN Tai and charter member Lion YP Lim.

During the training, various topics were covered, including the illustrious history of Lionism, the establishment and development of our club, core values, codes of conduct, and the organizational structure, among others.

The responsibility of organizing the training fell upon our Leadership Chairperson. But we also need to thank the trainers for a job well-done.

Overall, it was a good platform for new members to learn much more about our Lions’ universe. As often the case, through face-to-face learning, we all learnt much more than what we could otherwise. This helps new members to ‘settle’ quickly and feels the sense of belonging. We have high hopes that this training will effectively equip our new Lions for their upcoming service commitments.

What A Year (2022/2023) It Has Been, President Adrian!

🦁 Thank You, LCSJ 🦁

Dear LCSJ members,

As we reach the end of this fiscal term, I would like to express my gratitude to the members, the Board of Directors, and especially my key officers, for their invaluable contributions in ensuring yet another successful term for LCSJ, our 40th term.

Serving as the President of our club has been a cherished experience for me. Working alongside our members and Leos to make a positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged, while fostering fellowships among ourselves, of course accompanied by the delicious meals.

I hope that members has also found this journey rewarding and enriching, as I refer to it as the “Lionism experience.” This experience has not only brought fulfillment to my own life, but I also believe it has helped me become a better father, husband, employer, a better person.

I am delighted (and relieved) to know that our club will continue under the capable leadership of our incoming President, Ln John McRay Chong.

Finally, in my enthusiasm, if I have unintentionally offended or acted rudely towards any of you, please accept my sincerest apologies.

With this, I conclude this term with a resounding Roar! 🦁

President Adrian handed over the presidency to President John McRay Chong on 1 July 2023. During our last club meeting on 12 June 2023, President Adrian had shown members the above video to highlight all the whirlwind events of the last 1 year.

We would like to memorialize that energy, optimism, fun and comradeship by making sure that video is accessible for everyone here.

2023 Hike A Hill + Plant A Tree

After much planning, finally, a contingent of about 65 Lions, Leos and friends were at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam for this fun-ny and sunny outdoor event 👍🏾 (thumbs-up hand also turned brown under the sun LOL).

Hiking

Youngest participant was a Leo (probably from Leo Club of Taylors’ University) and the oldest was our Lion PDG SN Tai. We split ourselves in 2 groups – those brave souls of the ‘fast group’ attempted to reach Bukit Sapu Tangan peak, and those cool souls of the ‘slow group’ only wanted to enjoy a healthy and peaceful walk around the botanical garden.

We all set-off towards the same direction together. After about half an hour, everyone reached Puncak Seni, the first hilltop in the journey. The 2 group then split up from there.

19 persons reached the peak within the 50 minutes time allowance given. The remaining turned back wherever they were after 50 minutes because we wanted to start the Planting segment on time. Everyone walked back to the ticket office area for the second segment.

Planting

Lions Club of Subang Jaya contributed 388 plants and bags of soil to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam for this environmental project of ours. Thankfully, we had a full force of Leos, Lions and friends helping us with the hard work of planting.

How did we plant? No shortcut – we dug the hole, put in the soil, put in the plant, cover up, fertilized and then watered the new plants. It was around 10am by the time we started this segment – we knew everyone was tired and hot from the earlier hike and super sunny weather; but we did not find anyone with low spirit. Whatever planted with a smile, we are sure will grow into a beautiful plant soon.

How did we end the day?

Cold drinks and great food at Q-Bistro in Glenmarie. No Lions will forget to have a great makan fellowship after such a tiring but happy day in service of our community.
