13 December 2025. Representing our region in the “Champions on the Lanes – Bowling Finals 2025”, competing among fellow Lions from District 308 A2, B1, B2 & B3. Each Lions representatives was teamed up with representatives from “Special Olympic individual”. LC Subang Jaya managed to get bronze.
This is an event to raise funds for charity.
23 November 2025. One Community Lions Learning Centre Anniversary with RC John Mc Ray donating another month of rental for the Center (2nd time) + Trinity Group Sdn Bhd (Dato Neoh Soo Keat) supporting tutor expenses of RM10,000 for 2024-25.

Like any major undertaking, we had to form a committee to carry out this mammoth task of organizing a 40th anniversary (40A) birthday party cum fundraising for our Club. But first, we need to find a member who is happy to lead the committee. This was expeditiously done in a dinner hosted by our Advisor, PCC Dato’ Patrick. Lion Joseph was tasked to be the Organizing Chairperson (OC). His only condition is that he does not want to be the person who does 80% of the work … there must be genuine teamwork.
We formed an organizing committee about 4 months ahead of the chosen celebration date of 10 October 2022. We just knew that we must begin work very early or else everyone will be stressed out – plus we want it to be fun, humorous, friendly, enjoyable, and gives opportunity for members to learn and develop themselves.
President Adrian wasted no time to work with OC to convene the first meeting in A&W fast food restaurant in Petaling Jaya. President directed that the only project that we will carry out until 10.10.22 is to organize this 40A.
Since we are 40 years old this year, the thinking is why not we try to raise RM40,000 for charity and recruit 4 more new members so that we reach a total membership of 40 (dubbed 40A + 40F + 40M). The Board gave us the go-ahead with our plan, well … at least the 40A + 40F part.
Throughout the 4 months, President and OC took the opportunity to put our money where our mouth is. We wanted to put our transformed Club’s culture and norm into real life practice. We believe in diversity and shared experience and vision. We don’t just proclaim that young and old, men and women are all equal. We put in the extra mile to ensure that this is manifested in the real world. The everyday language, conversation, expectations, conformities, taboos, etc. – these are the elements that shape any organization’s culture. For example, we corrected members who got things wrong. Very quickly, members got in line and support this effort.
… transformation is not a one-month job. It is continuous. And we are continuing …
The Committee has decided to get Leos to be involved in the organization. For example, we bought hand-made corsage from them rather than from the shop – let them earn money for their club’s fund. We also asked them to be usherers. We believe that in order to have true transformation to get clubs to be vibrant and dynamic, we must start with Leos and provide them the skeletal structure. They then ‘grow’ the meat over the skeleton, so to say.
The Committee has also decided that we are not expert in everything. Through goodwill, we either got free services or big discount from restaurant, professional photographing, event management, and emcee. But … we have to work with them as a team and treat these outside professionals as if they are our own members. We are glad we did just that – the whole process became not only efficient; it was also value-adding.
During the organization, the committee members learnt a lot. From how to use Google Drive in an efficient manner, to letter writing, to adherence to protocols, to business acumen (e.g., how to promote our charity wine sales!). The older members thought they are seasoned organizers, but they have a lot to learn – better ways of doing things – from the younger members. The young members thought they are super-resourceful, but they have benefited from a lot of wisdom of the experienced members.
In short, Lions Club of Subang Jaya did not just organize a birthday party because we needed one; we took the opportunity to practice good Lionism and values.
The last few days to 10.10.22 was truly the most hectic part. Last minute checklist after checklist after check the list after recheck the list, was carried out by OC. Maybe he is a control freak but that is him. Good to look at the forest at all time, but we must know when to get into the detail to look at the trees too, “That’s one of the ‘trade secret’… ha ha”.
Despite all the preparation, we were not immune from shortcomings and mistakes. But we believe we have avoided many pitfalls, especially those we term “careless mistakes”. A rehearsal was called – team leaders, emcees, Leos and event managers were braving the heat (air-conditioner were not switched on in the ballroom) to go through their “cue-notes” methodically to allow each step to be visualized. The relatively smooth conduct of the dinner had a lot to do with this effort.
Finally, the clock struck 5pm and members were turning up. Men with their standard Ruby-colored (40th anniversary = ruby) bowties. Ladies with their wrist corsages. Guests were also turning up on time. At one moment, our members taking care of the reception seemed to be drowning with long queue of people whom wanted to know their table and to pay for the dinner.
Like in any other Lions’ dinner banquet, we had the same stuff – photo backdrop, corsage for VIP, Lion pins, mock cheques, food presentation, protocol seating, ceremonious rites and rituals. If you have not realized by now, this blog is written to give you a perspective of ‘behind the scenes’ from the mind of the organizers. So, let’s continue with this.
Even though the atmosphere at the foyer reception seemed chaotic, it was actually not. Painstakingly but efficiently, our members cleared the queue. Emcees could call everyone to be seated quite on time, before 7pm. We endeavored to end the function by 10pm because many people have to work on the next day.
We have provided photos capturing the mood, atmosphere, emotions and expressions of our members, our guests and even the people whom were working there. So, we will not write on what happened during the rest of the night.
Will we do it again when we are 45? Certainly! But we hope by then, there will be a new generation of members running it with their even more ‘modern’ style and ways.
Well, 40A + 40F was successfully completed. No, 40M is a work-in-progress. Our President envisions that the one day, the club will be more multi-racial and perhaps include more working professional and expatriate members. We hope we could attract the right people to join us – simply because they see LCSJ as a can-do winner (everybody wants to join winners, so to say) in community service and they like making friends with people of our organizational culture and value.

Joint project with Lions Club of Cameron Hillview and SS14 Rukun Tetangga. We sold 2 tons of vegetables. Net Profit from this Vegetable Selling Project was RM 6,637.20. The profit was divided into 3 portions of RM2,200 each for Lions Club of Subang Jaya, Cameron Hillview and Rukun Tetangga SS14. The remaining balance after the distribution was contributed to Rukun Tetangga SS14.
Overall this was a great success; and every members are looking forward to do this again in coming year, targeting 3-ton lorry full of vegetables.
