Lions Club of Subang Jaya Gongxirity Fundraising Dinner 2020
Covid-19 pandemic lockdown was imminent. We were nervous whether this fundraising event could even be held as donors, guests and members might be too afraid to turn up 😓😓. However, since all tickets were sold, we just had to go on. The only Covid-19 protection item that we prepared was a big bottle of hand sanitizer! To our surprise, all the seats were filled – we had a full turnout.
Even though we scaled the size down to just 15 tables due to the Covid-19 worry, we were able to raise MYR46.5k from the dinner. The member that sold the most tickets was no other than our Lion Dato SK Neo. He was also kind-hearted enough to donate his collection of wine – which Lion Jia Hui managed to charm guests into buying at MYR88 per bottle; raising a further MYR2k of funds for charity.
From the total of MYR48.5k raised, MYR 38.5k will be used for future projects and MYR10k was donated (MYR5k each) to these 2 charities: Da Ai Malaysia and Yayasan Rumah Ozanam. President Sharon and PCC Dato Patrick presented the cheques.

By the way, since it was still the 2020 Chinese New Year period, the dinner was also our own members’ CNY fellowship gathering … everyone was asked to dress up in CNY theme.
Two voluntary (non-member) ladies rendered us beautiful songs and music. On the left, we had Miss Marie Tan with her beautiful voice. On the right, we had Miss Nina, a talented violinist.
