A dozen kids from USJ1 Angsana were given a roaring treat by the Lions Club of Subang Jaya down in Kuala Lumpur to enjoy a day at Taman Tugu, an urban forest park.
Given that it was a school holiday, the Lions had invited a dozen children from USJ 1 Angsana flats to explore the park and learn a thing or two from the programs lined up for them.
The children and Lions were introduced to the proper methods of planting and a jungle trail to learn about the flora and fauna of a Malaysian forest. The program was led by Free Tree Society.
After a full afternoon outdoors, the children were feted to dinner and games at McDonald’s Taipan.
Subang Jaya Assemblyman Michelle Ng, who was instrumental in coordinating the activity was pleased that the community had come forward to bring children out for educational activities. She added that the children, being from the B40 families, may not enjoy the same privileges and it was their first experience in an urban forest.
Lion Joseph Lee, the organizer, felt it was a fruitful activity seeing how contended the children were at the end of the day.

Paediatric Cancer Project @ University Malaya Medical Centre
The painting of wall mural by LCSJ members and a volunteer artist commenced earlier on 1st November 2017. On the actual day (17 November) of the project, all members arrived at 2pm. We had an opening ceremony for the nursing room which was beautifully decorated with mural art (which was adopted by Lions Club of Subang Jaya).
At 3pm all Lion and Leo members visited the children and gave out goodies bag. 30 goodies bag and a commemorative “Ang Pow” was given out by Club Secretary, wishing speedy recovery for each and every child. The children were very excited and happy upon receiving the goodies and toys from the McDonald’s Happy Meal pack.
There were also few infants, and our visit did give a lot of support to the parents who were present. At 4pm Some of these children gathered at the playroom and enjoyed a magic show performed by a magician. Approximately at 4.45pm, some Lion members taught the children origami art. Before we ended the day, we had also invited outpatient children and on-duty nurses to join us to celebrate November babies birthday followed by 6 large pizza and a huge jelly cake.
Our Club Secretary Marilyn funded most of the expenses to commemorate her Birthday; the Club spent approximately RM 2,150 for adopting the nursing room. All children, the hospital staff members, Lions Club members and La Salle Leo members had a great time spent together with the children.
Attendees were 16 members of LCSJ namely President Yong Kheng Loong, Club Secretary Marilyn, 1st Vice President Datin Elsie, 2nd Vice President Deborah Teoh, PDG Tai Sing Nge, IPP Sang Cheng Kee, DC Youth Exchange Phillip Chay, DC Liasion Dato SK Neoh, Lion Leong Jia Hui, Lion Joey Chor, Lion Adrian Lim, Lion Candy, Lion John Mc Ray, Lion Tan Yuen Chung, Lion Hua Bing 2 friends of Lions, 6 Leos and 1 Faculty Advisor from Leo of La Salle and DC Children Lee Teck Leong and Lion Joseph Chai from Lions Club of Miri Host.
SS14 Padang Vegetable Selling
Joint project with Lions Club of Cameron Hillview and SS14 Rukun Tetangga. We sold 2 tons of vegetables. Net Profit from this Vegetable Selling Project was RM 6,637.20. The profit was divided into 3 portions of RM2,200 each for Lions Club of Subang Jaya, Cameron Hillview and Rukun Tetangga SS14. The remaining balance after the distribution was contributed to Rukun Tetangga SS14.
Overall this was a great success; and every members are looking forward to do this again in coming year, targeting 3-ton lorry full of vegetables.
