Report on the Bubur Lambuk Project in Collaboration with the Residents of USJ 1 Angsana Flat in Subang Jaya on 16 March 2025.
The Lions Club of Subang Jaya’s Bubur Lambuk project was organized as a joint-project with the residents of USJ 1 Angsana Block C & E Flats. The project aim was to prepare and distribute Bubur Lambuk, a traditional Malaysian rice porridge, as part of a charitable effort during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event started at 8:00am with ingredient preparation. Volunteers worked together to chop and cut garlic, shallots, lemongrass, and spring onions. Cooking began at 9:00am, whereby, rice was slow-cooked with spices, coconut milk, chicken, and other aromatic ingredients. Stirring the porridge continuously was essential to ensure a smooth and well-cooked consistency. This was one of the laborious part, needing our members to have some patience!
About 30 Lions and Leo members participated in this cooking project together with the resident committee. The collaborative teamwork amongst people from different background strengthened our sense of the Malaysian Muhibbah spirit of unity and shared multi-ethnic cultural value.
Nearly 900 packs of Bubur Lambuk were prepared and distributed to households, orphanages, and elderly homes. However, due to unexpected rain, the project had to conclude earlier than planned. Despite this, the event successfully achieved its goal of bringing people together and spreading kindness during Ramadan.
