The gas pipeline explosion on 1 April 2025 didn’t just happen somewhere, it happened in our own backyard, right here in Subang Jaya. That made it all the more important for us to step up and help.
Without delay, our club jumped into action, this time working together with Lions Club of Sunway Damansara Metro (SDM). Not long after, Lions Club of Kajang and the Leo Clubs of Subang Jaya Alumni, Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus and SMK USJ 8 joined in to lend their support too.
Lion Adrian was quick to contact Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Subang Jaya, coordinating the relief effort, to find out what was needed urgently by the victims. The message was clear, the victims taking shelter at Masjid Putra Heights urgently needed daily essentials like toiletries, diapers, and hygiene supplies.
Together with Organizing Chairperson Lion Charlene and President Lion Jia Hui, we agreed this couldn’t wait. We mobilized aid on the very same day. SDM helped us purchase the items, and with the help of PDG Alan Thoo and SDM President Mun Hong, the supplies were packed into cars and delivered to the mosque that very night.
We saw firsthand how badly help was needed and how quickly kindness can move when people come together.
