Blood Donation Fair & Free Diabetes Test 2023

Our Club conducted a Blood Donation Fair & Free Diabetes Test on 30 April 2023 at SS15 Courtyard Subang Jaya.

In our last blood donation fair on 6 June 2022, we encountered overwhelming demand by donors wanting to donate their blood – you can read about it here. The queue was long and donors had to wait patiently. We promised ourselves at that time that we will improve in the 2023 fair – we wanted to reduce waiting time of donors – should be as stress free as possible.

Fast-forward to this year in April 2023, we opened a WhatsApp hotline for donors to make appointments for donation. Anyone whom had an appointment got priority and do not need to spend (wasteful) time waiting in queue. This is really a novel service offered by any blood donation fair. At the start of the fair, we had 88 appointments. To our surprise, there were also many walk-ins. As we had only 120 bags, we had no choice but to turn down many whom did not make any appointment

There were also many people whom wanted to have the blood sugar tested for diabetes.

In the final tally, Pusat Darah Negara collected 125 bags of blood (compared to 108 bags in 2022). As for the free Diabetes Test (Blood Glucose Test), we did about 125 tests.

Overall, we felt that we have achieved what we aimed for – a novel blood donation fair whereby donors do not wait long in queue and the whole process was efficient and pleasant. We thanked all blood donors with a goodie bag plus a treat for the good old Milo drink.
